The defendant confessed to 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A man who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males who were nine and 10.

The defendant was arrested after eight children and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he ran.

The man played a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."

The legal counsel said items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his suspicions.

She explained Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement again.

She said the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
